Title: Teachers of Digital Preservation

Facilitator(s): Louise Curham

Description: I’d really welcome the opportunity to bring together those of us involved in teaching digital preservation in university courses. Not all of us have practical experience of digital preservation. It would be extremely useful to share notes and experiences. Here’s a possible call out for participation: Are you involved in teaching about digital preservation? Not everyone who has a role in this area has hands on experience of digital preservation. Some topics for discussion include what students find challenging, conceptual models for digital preservation, insights we can give practitioners and integration with practice and practitioners.

Title: Migration Patterns: International Job Hunting

Facilitator(s): Laura Keller

Description: What better place for digital preservationists seeking work abroad to network than at iPres? This ad-hoc discussion and activity will address the process of seeking (and scoring) a new job in a new country. Participants will be asked to discuss what the hiring culture in our field is like in their home nation or even better, their experience finding a job internationally. Ideally, participants will be able to share advice on things like expectations when applying, interviewing, etc., civic requirements and other regional tips and tricks. The ultra-prepared participant may even bring some resumes to share with a new contact!

At the beginning of the discussion, each participant will be given three stickie notes. They will have the length of the session to write the name of a resource such as a website, organization or contact for a country or region of their choice to share with the group. By the end of the session, participants will post their notes visibly near the country or place of their choice (blank notecards will be provided by the facilitator to do so). The facilitator will take pictures of the results and share with the group after.
