iPRES 2023 Supported Participation

iPRES 2023 would like to enable as many people as possible to attend the conference in September, whether online or in person. We are therefore delighted to share these funding opportunities which will reduce the costs of registration and travel for attendees who might not be able to participate otherwise.

Apply for Funding: Scholarships Available through the Conference and Partnering Sponsors

 

iPRES 2023 is delighted to offer a limited number of funding opportunities to support individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints. These opportunities will enable members of the digital preservation community from a diverse global constituency to participate in the iPRES 2023 conference, involving new participants in the application of digital preservation, and expanding the cultural diversity of the iPRES community. Applications for funding are welcomed from students, early career professionals, and educators who are members of historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and/or residents of under-represented countries and/or from low- and middle-income countries

To determine your eligibility, please review the specific requirements outlined below. It is important to note that despite the unique eligibility criteria from participating sponsors and organizations, applicants only need to complete ONE application form. All sections of the application form should be completed and submitted to iPRES2023@gmail.com by the deadline of 11:59 CT on May 26, 2023 (click here to see your local time). 

iPRES 2023 GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS & TRAVEL BURSARIES

Eligibility 

iPRES 2023 general scholarship and travel bursaries are open to:

  • Graduate or undergraduate students seeking degrees in or considering a career related to libraries, archives, museums, cultural heritage, or digital humanities
  • Early career professionals working in digital preservation. (less than 5 years of experience in the field).
  • Be a member of an Indigenous, historically underrepresented, or marginalized community.

We encourage those applying for bursaries to contribute to the conference via submissions to the main or ad-hoc program, or by some other means. Please note that only one application can be made per organization. 

Portico Supported Participation

Eligibility 

Portico Supported Participation bursaries are open to residents of under-represented countries and/or from low- and middle-income countries who are unable to attend the conference because of lack of funding.

You should have the support of a line manager or supervisor before you apply for a bursary.

We encourage those applying for bursaries to contribute to the conference via submissions to the main or ad-hoc program, or by some other means. Please note that only one application can be made per organization. 

Mortenson Center for International Library Programs

Eligibility 

The Mortenson Center for International Library Programs is offering travel bursaries for iPRES 2023, which will cover 100% of conference registration and contribution towards travel and accommodation for those attending in-person. They are open to individuals meetings the following criteria: 

  • library, archives and museum graduate students, educators, or early career professionals (less than 5 years of experience in the field) studying, teaching or working in digital preservation;  
  • residents of under-represented countries and/or from low- and middle-income countries, who are unable to attend the conference because of lack of funding; and 
  • individuals having the support of a supervisor, administrator or line manager before applying for a bursary.  

We especially welcome applications from members of an Indigenous, historically underrepresented, or marginalized community. 

We encourage those applying to consider how their participation in iPRES 2023 aligns with the Mortenson’s mission and interests, and include this information in their personal statement. We also encourage those applying for the bursaries to contribute to the conference via submissions to the main or ad-hoc program, or by some other means. 

External Opportunities: Supported Participation from Other Organizations

Please see below other organizations that offer financial support for individuals to attend iPRES 2023. These external scholarships may have different eligibility criteria and applications process, so be sure to review their external websites for additional information. 

Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to offer a number of fully-funded grants to support DPC Members attending the iPRES 2023 Conference in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA, 19-22 September. 

Each Career Development Fund grant will cover 100% of conference registration and contribution towards travel and accommodation for those attending in-person. 

More details about the grants are provided below, and applications are welcomed from DPC members until the grant application deadline of Friday, 2nd June 2023. The deadline has been extended to Friday, June 9 (7 am UTC).

National Digital Preservation Program, China (NDPP)

The National Digital Preservation Program, China (NDPP) is now offering bursaries to support iPRES 2023 participation for 3-5 Chinese individuals whose submissions have been accepted by iPRES 2023. NDPP Supported Participation bursaries will encourage more members from the Chinese digital preservation community to participate in the iPRES 2023 conference, and promote more Chinese researchers involving research and practice of digital preservation. Successful applicants will receive a bursary to help with expenses incurred the conference registration fee. Please visit  the NDPP website for more details (in Chinese).

Digital Preservation Outreach and Education Network (DPOE-N)

DPOE-N is pleased to offer funding support for citizens and residents of the United States of America to attend iPRES 2023. Applications for funding from new and emerging professionals and those whose employment has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic will be prioritized.

Applications will be accepted until June 2023, on a rolling basis.

Your Contribution
We encourage those applying for bursaries to contribute via submissions to the ad-hoc programming which will open in May. This will include a call for digital preservation games, lightning talks, original graphics and innovation.

Upon Acceptance
Accepted applicants should register using a registration waiver code provided by the iPRES 2023 conference organizers after acceptance.

Review Process
Reviewing of applications will begin following the deadline of May 31, 2023. A subset of the iPRES 2023 Organizing Team will be responsible for evaluation of applications. Applicants will be evaluated on:

  • Eligibility: whether they met the criteria for the category
  • Impact: based on their motivation
  • Relevance: based on their motivation
